tips on staying healthy

Basic tips to stay healthy

Hey Belay fam, we want you to stay healthy and Coronavirus-free! You probably know all the following, but it never hurts to be reminded of some very basic best practices.

1. Wash your hands

There's a good reason a surgeon washes his hands many times throughout the day; it prevents infection! Not only that, it's super easy, and basically free. Just use soap and water liberally, and wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

2. Block your cough with the inside of your elbow

Note: use your elbow rather than your hands. Why? Because it's not likely your inner elbow will touch many surfaces, and thereby less likely to pass on whatever you've got (if you had used your hands).

3. Drink plenty of water

A simple measure for how much water we should drink a day is to take your weight in pounds. Divide that number in half. Use that number to dictate how much water you should drink in ounces. So, if a person weighed 150 pounds, they should drink at least 75 ounces of water per day.

4. Strengthen your immune system

More stuff you probably know, but just as reminders...keep taking vitamins and supplements, go for a walk, enjoy the sunshine, each healthy foods...take good care of yourself.

5. Get plenty of sleep

Your body fights best when it's well rested. As things are shutting down, schools called off, etc, use the opportunity to get some rest.

6. Pray

We believe in the power of prayer! James 5:14–15 (NIV) Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

7. Reflect on God's promises

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
